Welcome to our website!

The American International School of Nouakchott is the only fully accredited international school in Mauritania.  Our door is open to everyone, whether you are new to Mauritania or you were born and raised here.  These pages are designed to give you a feel for what our school is like.

At AISN, we believe that there are several factors that make us the best choice for your child’s education in Nouakchott.  First and foremost are our small class sizes.  AISN has 7 full time and 3 part time teachers for our 54 students.  This allows all of our students to receive individual attention. Our teachers know our students and can develop a differentiated program to help all students succeed.

Small classes are helpful, but they are not enough.  We are a data driven school. Last year our school was chosen as part of a pilot program in Africa for the Measures of Academic Progress (MAP) test, which will be administered twice per year.  After students take the test in October, teachers will be provided with immediate feedback to set learning goals for their students.  Students will be retested in May to see their progress.  Our Reading Renaissance program also has students setting goals in reading and receiving weekly progress reports towards their goals.  We realize that through setting targeted goals and developing a plan to reach them, students can get the most out of their education!

This year AISN is focusing on integrating more technology into the curriculum.  This will help our students, who were born as digital natives, use their skills to show what they know.  Check back frequently to see our classroom of the month projects posted on our website.

We have also introduced an eleventh grade program to our school.  We are the only English speaking high school in Mauritania.  Next year AISN will have its first graduating class!

We hope to meet you soon.  Many schools claim to be a family, but at AISN we live up to our motto “We are united”.

Sincerely,

Matthew Gaetano
